Calhoun Baptist Church
Rev. Jordan Hodges- Pastor
Sunday, January 22, 2012
We were so pleased to have several new folks in attendance today! We were overjoyed when one of our young ladies come forward to announce that she has received Jesus Christ as her personal Savior! When the Gospel is preached and a soul is saved, the angels in Heaven sing a joyous song!
Pastor Jordan brought his Sermon to us from the Book of Acts. NIV~ Acts Ch. 8:9-24
This scripture tells us about a man called Simon the sorcerer who believed in Jesus Christ and was baptized. We can learn how not to act from the life of Simon Magus, the sorcerer. He did not realize that he was a new creature in Christ, that he did not change his focus and know his great potential to further the Kingdom of God. He did not allow Jesus to change his heart and follow the apostles teachings. He wanted to buy the Gifts of the Holy Spirit.
Acts 8:20-24 NIV.
20 Peter answered: “May your money perish with you, because you thought you could buy the gift of God with money! 21 You have no part or share in this ministry, because your heart is not right before God. 22 Repent of this wickedness and pray to the Lord in the hope that he may forgive you for having such a thought in your heart. 23 For I see that you are full of bitterness and captive to sin.”
24 Then Simon answered, “Pray to the Lord for me so that nothing you have said may happen to me.”
Those on our list to lift up in prayer include ~The Chad Lewis Family ~ Brenda Parnell ~ George Jones~ Bob Ketchum ~ Jay Lilly~ John Snorgrass ~ Scot Pinkston ~Jim Wasson ~Jay Lilly~ Shaine Thompson .
