Calhoun Baptist Church News March 3, 2013~
Rev. David Van Bebber, Pastor:
Brother David opened our worship services with reading of the Word and with prayer. Our Contemporary Praise song was “Here I am to Worship”
Jesus and his men are still on their way to the Mt. of Olives.
Brother David’s key scripture for his sermon was chosen from the Book of John Ch.16:1-4 niv.
16 “All this I have told you so that you will not fall away. 2 They will put you out of the synagogue; in fact, the time is coming when anyone who kills you will think they are offering a service to God. 3 They will do such things because they have not known the Father or me. 4 I have told you this, so that when their time comes you will remember that I warned you about them. I did not tell you this from the beginning because I was with you,
Jesus is speaking to his disciples about what is soon to happen. I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master’s business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you.
“All this I have told you so that you will not fall away. They will put you out of the synagogue; in fact, the time is coming when anyone who kills you will think they are offering a service to God. They will do such things because they have not known the Father or me. I have told you this, so that when their time comes you will remember that I warned you about them. I did not tell you this from the beginning because I was with you.
They will do such things because they have not known the Father or me.
When the Advocate comes, whom I will send to you from the Father—the Spirit of truth who goes out from the Father—he will testify about me. And you also must testify, for you have been with me from the beginning.
You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you so that you might go and bear fruit—fruit that will last—and so that whatever you ask in my name the Father will give you. This is my command: Love each other as I have loved you!
Jesus has said, “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me. For whoever wants to save their life will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me and for the gospel will save it.
This applies to us today!
There was a Baptism this morning of a young man who has chosen to give his life to Jesus! His Aunt sang a solo of ” How Great Thou Art”
Is your life yours or does it belong to Jesus?
