Calhoun Baptist Church News Easter Sunday March 31, 2013~
Rev. David Van Bebber, Pastor:
Breakfast was prepared by Jim and Shirley Bilbrook for all to enjoy! After Sunday School was over and before the Worship Service began there was an Easter Egg Hunt in the Church’s yard.
Our little church was full of Worshiper this wonderful Easter Day!
Brother David greeted everyone with a welcome to worship the Lord this wonderful Sabbath Day in Spirit and in the Truth that comes only from God! There was a dedication of two little ones this morning. There were special prayers for each one and their families.
This is the day we celebrate the Resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ. He offers forgiveness for our failures and offers redemption to sinners who ask Him for forgiveness. No matter how great the sin.
We are reminded once again that this is the month to share our blessings the Lord has so graciously given to us with an offering to the “Anne “Armstrong Easter Offering” these offerings are used for “North American Missions”. We watched a film about how our offerings are used to spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ here in America!
Our Praise and Prayer Request time is a time for Praising God for answered prayers and a time for Prayer Request. Then Pastor David prays for each person listed for prayer.
The death and resurrection of Jesus Christ changed everything, split time and turned the world on its head as it all played out on this date over 2000 years ago.
The key scriptures for today’s sermon were John 20:1-10 & 19-23 NIV.
The Empty Tomb
20 Early on the first day of the week, while it was still dark, Mary Magdalene went to the tomb and saw that the stone had been removed from the entrance. 2 So she came running to Simon Peter and the other disciple, the one Jesus loved, and said, “They have taken the Lord out of the tomb, and we don’t know where they have put him!”
3 So Peter and the other disciple started for the tomb. 4 Both were running, but the other disciple outran Peter and reached the tomb first. 5 He bent over and looked in at the strips of linen lying there but did not go in. 6 Then Simon Peter came along behind him and went straight into the tomb. He saw the strips of linen lying there, 7 as well as the cloth that had been wrapped around Jesus’ head. The cloth was still lying in its place, separate from the linen. 8 Finally the other disciple, who had reached the tomb first, also went inside. He saw and believed. 9 (They still did not understand from Scripture that Jesus had to rise from the dead.) 10 Then the disciples went back to where they were staying.
Also John 21: 15-17,
John 21:15-17 (NIV)
Jesus Reinstates Peter
15 When they had finished eating, Jesus said to Simon Peter, “Simon son of John, do you love me more than these?”
“Yes, Lord,” he said, “you know that I love you.”
Jesus said, “Feed my lambs.”
16 Again Jesus said, “Simon son of John, do you love me?”
He answered, “Yes, Lord, you know that I love you.”
Jesus said, “Take care of my sheep.”
17 The third time he said to him, “Simon son of John, do you love me?”
Peter was hurt because Jesus asked him the third time, “Do you love me?” He said, “Lord, you know all things; you know that I love you.”
Jesus said, “Feed my sheep.
Here we learn that our Jesus is the Lord of second chances. We can never fail too badly, we can never sin too much. Jesus uses Peter in these verses as an example of how He loves us so much even if we think we are not good enough for his forgiveness.
The Lord is so good! The Holy Spirit has brought another Soul into the fold. She wants Jesus to always be her Saviour. She was Baptized after the Easter Services this morning!
