Calhoun Baptist Church News Sunday April 14, 2013~
Rev. David Van Bebber, Pastor:
In December of 1998 the 42nd President of the United State William Jefferson Clinton was impeached for lying under oath. One his most outspoken opponents during the impeachment hearings was a man by the name of Newt Gingrich, Rep. from GA and Speaker of the House at the time. Within a year of the impeachment hearings Gingrich confessed to his own marital affair and divorced his wife. Many have noted that Gingrich was guilty of marital infidelity at the same time he publically criticized the president for his both marital misconduct and lying under oath.
One detail that frequently gets swept under the rug in this story is the Resignation of Rep. Bob Livingston congressman from Louisiana who at the outset of the Impeachment hearings. Acknowledged his extra-marital affair apologized and left his office.
*It’s easy for us to attack the sin of others finding fault with the unjust or immoral acts someone other than ourselves, but it is hard to admit our own sin, confess that sin, and deal with the very real consequences of sin.
2 Samuel 12:1- 7(NIV) The reading of the Word.
Nathan Rebukes David
The Lord sent Nathan to David. When he came to him, he said, “There were two men in a certain town, one rich and the other poor. The rich man had a very large number of sheep and cattle, but the poor man had nothing except one little ewe lamb he had bought. He raised it, and it grew up with him and his children. It shared his food, drank from his cup and even slept in his arms. It was like a daughter to him.“Now a traveler came to the rich man, but the rich man refrained from taking one of his own sheep or cattle to prepare a meal for the traveler who had come to him. Instead, he took the ewe lamb that belonged to the poor man and prepared it for the one who had come to him.” David burned with anger against the man and said to Nathan, “As surely as the Lord lives, the man who did this must die! He must pay for that lamb four times over, because he did such a thing and had no pity.”
Then Nathan said to David, “You are the man! This is what the Lord, the God of Israel, says: ‘I anointed you king over Israel, and I delivered you from the hand of Saul.
David lost four sons because of his extra-marital affairs . Death was not going to leave David’s house, it was his sin. We know the Story he was tempted by Bathsheba, he gives into this temptation and Bathsheba becomes pregnant. If you have not read the story it is a very good example of how not to live your life. We must deal with our own sin and as a result encourage others not to judge. ~LET US YIELD TO THE JUSTICE OF CHRIST~
It is a sin to not confess our sins ,to share our faith, to act in helping others. It is a sin not to acknowledge God and thank him for what he has done for us.
*Sin makes a mess of everything, it hurts others and destroys relationships, We must confess our personal missteps, ask for forgiveness and mercy.
