There is much anticipation of the day we celebrate the first coming of Christ. We are decorating the church with a beautiful “Lighted Christmas Tree” that sits almost in front of the Cross that is on the right side of the Alter. There are decorations all along the Alter and Wreaths with beautiful bows on the doors. Most of all there is going to be a Manger Scene out on the church’s lawn. If you wanted to sum up the meaning of Advent, this beautiful and haunting season of waiting, you could do it with just one question: What are you waiting for? Most people, I suspect, would say, very simply, we’re waiting for Christmas, the celebration of the birth of Jesus. But the Gospel our Advent Season suggests that answer isn’t really accurate. What Advent is really about is something greater and deeper than what you see in the malls or watch on TV. It transcends Jingling Bells and Twinkling Lights. It even transcends time. What we are waiting for, really, is the end of time. We are waiting for Christ to come – not as a baby in a manger, but as a King in the clouds. This second Sunday of Advent Brother Jeff and Sister Heather Hollinger and their daughters Elana and Gracie lighted the Candles of Advent and read the Scriptures and ended with a Prayer.

Brother David’s reading of the Word was from the Book of Luke Ch: 18:1-8 NKJV. His sermon was about the just Judge and the unjust judge.

Luke 18:1-8

New King James Version (NKJV)

The Parable of the Persistent Widow

18 Then He spoke a parable to them, that men always ought to pray and not lose heart, saying: “There was in a certain city a judge who did not fear God nor regard man. Now there was a widow in that city; and she came to him, saying, ‘Get justice for me from my adversary.’ And he would not for a while; but afterward he said within himself, ‘Though I do not fear God nor regard man, yet because this widow troubles me I will avenge her, lest by her continual coming she weary me.’”

Then the Lord said, “Hear what the unjust judge said. And shall God not avenge His own elect who cry out day and night to Him, though He bears long with them? I tell you that He will avenge them speedily. Nevertheless, when the Son of Man comes, will He really find faith on the earth?”

This scripture is about prayer. We should pray without ceasing. We must keep an eye out all of the time for the unjust judge this parable speaks about. Will the just Judge find us waiting for Him when He comes again?
