Church News – August 2nd

“There Shall Be Showers of Blessings” was the first hymn we sang on a rainy Sunday morning as we gathered for worship. Pastor Mark Abney continued with his series on the ‘First Martyrs” preaching from the book of Acts 8: 1-8. The first Christians were being persecuted. Persecution has resulted in the further disbursement of God’s word and serves the great commission well. Persecution or hardships draw us closer to God. Satin wants to use persecution to destroy the Church but God uses it to refine the Church. If you are in persecution, put your faith in Jesus Christ and He will bring you great joy.

There were no birthday celebrations this week. However, we want to wish Vernon and Pat Kampe a very happy 50th wedding anniversary. Special wishes to them on this very special accomplishment.

Please keep in prayer the following people: Gary Johnson, Phyllis Richey, Mel Gatsy, Sandy Castle, Alyson Paul, and the Robert Staats family. God answers prayer.

School supplies were distributed to Calhoun R-8 school students last Friday and Saturday in the church basement fellowship hall. Several students came to receive free supplies. Thank you to everyone who contributed to this valuable mission project.

Come and join Celebrate Recovery which meets every Sunday evening beginning at 5:30 pm with supper. At 6:30 pm large group worship starts and then at 7:30 pm small groups meet. The lesson for last week focused on forgiveness. Luke 6:31 says “Do to others as you would have them do to you.” Have you accepted God’s forgiveness, forgiven others, and forgiven yourself? Join us at CR on Sunday evenings.

If you do not have a church home or are not currently worshiping in one, we invite you to worship with us at Calhoun Baptist Church. We are striving to live, share, and tell the story of Christ. Come along beside us and be a part of the work. Our Sunday School starts at 10:00 am with a class for every age. Then join us for worship at 11:00 am.
