Church News – October 4th

It was a perfect day to worship the Lord and we greeted one another in love. Pastor Mark Abney brought the message from Acts 11:19-30 and titled it “The First Christians”. People will know we are Christians because of our walk. We walk not according to the things of this world but by the steps of Jesus Christ. We are witnesses of Jesus and we have the unconditional love of God within us. How do you live up to the name that you’re a Christian? Can others tell you’re a Christian by the way you walk, talk, and love? These are important questions to ponder.

The following people remain on our prayer list: Gary Johnson, Jim Greer, Robert Fields, Paula Kohl, Charles Decker, Gary and Janet Taylor and the Larry Ridgway family. Remember to pray for our teachers and students, also all those affected by recent flooding. Praise to our God who hears and answers prayers.

Very happy birthday wishes go out to Sandra Spooner who celebrated on September 27th and Dan Henry who celebrated October 2nd. Happy birthday, God bless you.

We began a new unit in Gospel Kid’s last week titled “God the Provider”. This week the lesson was “God Saved His People Through Esther” from Esther 5-10. Was God’s hand on Esther placing her in the position of Queen “for such a time as this’”? Does God place us in different situations for particular reasons? God is clearly in control. We invite all children in kindergarten through sixth grades to come join us on Wednesdays from 6:00 – 7:00 pm.

Last Sunday was Singspiration at Drake’s Chapel. All churches represented provided some very special music that was enjoyed by all. Scott and Kaye Brooks were in attendance and favored us with two songs and a piano instrumental. We appreciate their participation. The next Fifth Sunday Singspiration will be December 29th at Mt. Olivet. Make plans to attend.

Celebrate Recovery is held every Sunday evening at Calhoun Baptist Church. If you have a hurt, hang up, or habit then this is the place for you. Supper starts at 5:30 pm followed by large group worship at 6:30 and small groups at 7:30 pm. All are welcome.

Come and worship with us at Calhoun Baptist Church where we are living, sharing, and telling the story of Christ. Sunday School begins at 10:00 am with a class for every age then Worship follows at 11:00 am.
